BRAIN CANCER – EXAMINATION AND TESTS
By Antin. When your medical interview and physical examination by a competent health-care provider indicate brain or brain stem problems (include brain cancer), you should take some examinations and tests include:
- CT scan of the brain. It use in most cases of probable brain cancer. CT scan usually uses a harmless dye that is injected into your bloodstream to highlight abnormalities on the scan.
- Routine laboratory tests such as analysis of blood, electrolytes, liver function tests, and a blood coagulation profile. These tests should take because people with brain cancer often have other medical problems. Sometimes brain cancer can develops mental changes so blood and urine tests may be done to detect drug use.
- MRI of the brain. Mostly it is used instead CT scan for suspected brain tumors, because MRI has a higher sensitivity for detecting the presence of, or changes within, a tumor.
- Brain tumor biopsy. Biopsy can take by opening the skull or by stereotaxis technique (a small hole made in the skull and a needle guided through the hole to the brain tumor). This test will determine whether the tumor is brain cancer or not.
