By Antin. Brain cancer is the growth of cancer cells in the brain. Cancer cells form a mass of cancer tissue (tumor). There are two types of tumor that occur in the brain benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous). Even benign brain tumors do not contain cancer cells or invade other tissue; they can cause pressure in areas of the brain and cause symptoms.

Malignant (cancerous) tumors in brain are classified as primary brain cancer and secondary brain cancer. Primary brain cancer / brain cancer is malignant tumor that start in any tissue of the brain. It rarely metastasizes to other parts of the body. Secondary brain cancer / metastatic brain cancer is cancer that starts in another part of the body and metastasizes to the brain. Metastatic brain cancer is more common than primary brain cancer.

Statistics suggest that brain cancer is not rare and is likely to develop in about 20,000 people per year. Brain tumor that pressures brain tissue will affect it functions such as muscle control, sensation, memory, and other normal body functions.
