AIR POLLUTION & LUNG CANCER
By Antin. Besides smoking (active and passive smoking) as primary cause of lung cancer, there are several things that have connected to lung cancer. Asbestos fibers, radon gas, and air pollution can be the causes of lung cancer. Genetic or familial predisposition may play a role as a cause of lung cancer. Lung diseases and prior history of lung cancer also give someone a greater to get lung cancer / secondary lung cancer.
According to development of transportations and industries, the air pollution level has increase. Air pollution from vehicles, industry, and power plants can raise the risk of developing lung cancer. People that have prolonged air pollution exposure have greater risk to get lung cancer. Up to 1% of lung cancer deaths are attributable to breathing polluted air. Many experts believe that prolonged air pollution exposure can carry a risk similar to that of passive smoking for the development of lung cancer.
